I would like to write here a brief introduction of Dabpa Draknag
Norbuling Monastery which abides close to the supreme holy place of
the three lords.
Surrounded by the great range of Tibet's Himalayan mountains, under
the Eastern land of Dotod Pobor Gang beside the holy snow mountains
known as Dhappa Gangkar Rigsum Gonpo, the place of Manjushri,
Chenrezig and Channa Dorje, the foundation is made up of
indestructable vajra rock upon which Dapnag Norbuling is situated
and from which came numerous holy people who attained realisation of
the paths and stages. It is said that because of the power of this
holy land, those without realisation or experiance cannot abide to
stay there for long. The surrounding mountains appear in many
predictions of great scolars and it is also said thet there are many
treasures hidden there.
Dakas and Dakkinis assemble there where healing waters and herbal
medicines and special trees are found. The name Dabpa comes from
when Guru Rinpoche travelled throughout Tibet and he said that this
place resembled a leaf of the thirtythree god realm, since then it
has been called Leaf of Thirties by the old people.
The people here dwell together like the Four Harmonious (Animals).
On the hill behind the monastery people can clearly see the syllable
DHI, the seed syllable of Manjushri, to the North you can see the
eight auspicious syllables
and in front one can see a dragon thundering gloriously, and this is
a holy place of the Dharma Protector Mahakala. It is said that
through the blessing and power of the Dharma Protector the monastery
has never been damaged. To the right is the place known as Jewel
Hill which is considered to be a holy place of Hevajra having the
eight corner symbols of the eight goddesses.
Throughout this land round, square, semi-circular and triangular
stones and earth can be found which represent peaceful, expannding,
powerful and wrathful energies.
Draknag Norbuling was founded by Dechen Chopel Odzer over seven
hundred years ago, when he came to this place carrying a vase, a
stupa of black bronze and an image of Amitayus riding a deer. He saw
this place endowed with all of these abundant qualities and built
this monastery on this stable lion-throne.
It is 4038 feet above sea level and ten kilometers from Dhappa (Daocheng),
and ancient holy statues, images, scriptures, stupas and numerous
beautiful wall murals can be seen at the monastery. At present there
are more than 100 resident Lamas and monks. The fame of this
auspicious place attracts greater and greater numbers of visitors
from around the world.
This was written at the request of the monastery residents to meet the needs of the tourists and guests by Khenpo Kunga Sangpo - who gathered this knowledge together from the old people of the place - on the first day of the second month of the year of the wood bird. May happiness and auspiciousness pervade.
