Khenpo Kunga Sangpo became a monk when he was seven at his family monastery, Dragnor Monastery, in Daocheng, Sichuan. Aged twenty he left his homeland to deepen his knowledge.
He studied the complete teachings of the Buddha in Dzonsar Institute, India for ten years covering in full detail all eighteen of the great philosophical treatises and other tantric texts. In his later years at the institute he was given the responsibility of teacher to the younger students and he was appointed the Champon (Sacred-Dance Leader).
Interpreting many texts during his studies, he received many commendations for his good behaviour. In 2000 he earned the division certificate of Shastri Degree, (the equivalent of a B.A.), and in 2002 his Acharya Degree (equal to a M.A.) and receiving second position in his final year examination he was conferred the title of Khenpo (Professor) by Khen Rinpoche Kunga Wangchuk and H.H. Sakya Trizin.
Since becoming a Khenpo, he has travelled the world giving teachings wherever he has been requested to go. This has included teaching tours of Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the U.K. He has also led his students and friends on a pilgrimage to sacred places in China.
Khenpo travels to wherever he is invited to utilise his training and pass-on the teachings of the Lord Buddha and the teachings of the sacred lineage of the Sakya masters.
His root lama and the teacher who gave him everything he knows was the Ven. Khen Rinpoche Khenpo Kunga Wangchuk, whom the Dalai Lama himself paid respects to before his passing away in 2008. Upon his death he revealed his realisation to everyone by remaining upright in meditation posture for three days - with a rainbow bursting from his house the entire time. photo
We pray for his swift rebirth.
